WEBNov 18, 2012 · Benchmaster mill has a drawbar for holding the arbors in place without falling out. The BM spindle probably does not have provision for the tang on a No. 2 Morse taper shank. So to use one of the adapters mentioned above, a person will have to cut off the tang and drill and tap for the thread needed for the draw bar.

WEBNov 26, 2015 · Thanks for the response. The motor that came with my mill doesn't fit the original base/footprint. It's been modified to fit the machine. The motor being used front foot to end of shaft is too short. The previous owner had machined a base to fix the problem. This base bolt to the original motor foot holes and allow the motor to use a new footprint.

If uses it the way it was intended, for light cuts, smaller cutters, and higher speeds, they are a fine mill and very nicely made.

But as far as being more usable, about the only thing that you can't do with a horizontal that you can do with most verticals is run a tapping head.

WEBApr 18, 2021 · I have the complete setup also, but since I also have a "real" horizontal mill, I have never used it. It probably "works", but I don't like the Benchmaster setup for horizontal. The spindle goes in the "ram clamps", and a fairly light, thin casting clamps on the spindle housing between the clamps to hold the overarm. Does not seem very stiff.

WEBMay 13, 2020 · The speed will depend on the motor rpm, likely 1750 rpm or so. All you need to do is count motor turns for each turn of the spindle, turning by hand, at each pulley step. Then you divide motor speed by the resulting number and you have spindle rpm. I do not recall what it is offhand.

WEBFeb 22, 2003 · I have a little horizontal mill called an Industrolite that is for sale. Actually I have two, one is pristine and I'm keeping it. The other is rough around the edges but I think basically sound (ways OK, etc.) biggest defect is the gearbox for the power table feed is missing. It's a bit of a project that could become a nice servicable little mill.

WEBJul 6, 2013 · Yes, technically, it is an adapter, in that it adapts one thing to another, but in practice they are almost always referred to as end mill holders. Weldon invented the helical end mill, which tends to pull out of collets under heavy use, so they came up with the straightshankwithdriveflat holder system to combat that.
