You definitely do not need a ball mill. If you're going to handmake your black powder rocket fuel, you'll be using several screens40mesh, 4mesh, and 10mesh screens. If you don't already have them, you can get them here at Skylighter. You'll also need a bladetype coffee mill (cheap at WalMart).

Firefly Aluminum. 5. I ball mill the Potassium Nitrate, Air Float Charcoal, Sulfur and Dextrin together for 1 hour. I then add the 36 mesh Charcoal and Firefly Aluminum powder and mix with a spoon. Here's a shot of some stainless steel media and ceramic media. The stainless steel must be sparkresistant, nonmagnetic steel in the 300series. Alloys 304 and 316 are the most common stainless steels of this type. Highdensity alumina ceramic media is the type I've heard of most often being used in ball mills.

Optional: Ball mill with two containers and two sets of media: one for fuel/catalyst and one for oxidizer. Optional: A large pan suitable for heating enough water to "float" the stainless mixing bowl, but small enough to keep the bowl from turning over. I've made some pretty good black powder using a coffee grinder and porter porter and pestle, but I was looking into getting a ball was going to get one of the cheap 70 6lb rock tumbler and modify it per skylighter's directions, but I would still need to get media to fill it half full, 200 1/2" balls.
